AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies Appoints Michael A. Rashid President and CEO
Philadelphia, PA – The AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies today announced that Michael A. Rashid has assumed the role of President and Chief Executive Officer of the company. Rashid took on the new role effective January 1, 2010.
AmeriHealth Mercy is the largest organization of Medicaid managed care plans and related businesses in the United States. Rashid has been with the company since 1995, most recently as Executive Vice President. He led business development, strategic planning, and corporate service operations while the company grew from 285,000 members to over 6.5 million lives nationally. He was instrumental in expanding AmeriHealth Mercy’s lines of business to include the PerformRx pharmacy benefit division. He brings a wealth of experience in the operations and management of Medicaid managed care plans from past senior executive roles with New Jersey and Maryland health plans.
Prior to joining the AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies, Rashid was President and Chief Executive Officer of Mercy Health Plan of New Jersey (now Horizon NJ Health). Prior to that, Rashid served as Director of Medicaid Operations for Prudential Health Plan's Atlantic Region, which included operations in Baltimore, Maryland and start-ups in Washington, DC and Virginia. He also served as Chief Executive Officer of Total Health Care, a Medicaid managed care plan in Baltimore. Rashid has several years of experience in health care management and consulting.
AmeriHealth Mercy also announced that Anne Morrissey was appointed Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of the company, also effective January 1, 2010. Morrissey was previously Chief Operating Officer and President of Pennsylvania Managed Care for the company. Morrissey is responsible for corporate oversight of the Medicaid health plan operations in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Indiana. She also oversees PerformCare, a behavioral health subsidiary, and PerforMED, an intensive care management program for high cost members.
